Browser Choice

News Add comments

Have you thought about what browser you’re using to surf the web? Did you even know you had a choice? Many people just use the default browser that came on their computer. A large number of these people have Microsoft Windows and end up using Internet Explorer. While the newer versions of IE have come along way in supporting web standards, it still may not be the best browser for your situation. As a result of a longstanding antitrust case against Microsoft, people in Europe who have IE as their default browser were treated to a new browser choice page earlier this year. This helps make browser uses aware that they have a choice in the matter. Those of us outside the European Commission’s jurisdiction won’t be seeing a screen like this anytime soon, but it doesn’t mean we can’t use any browser we choose. There are pros and cons to each browser, so learn, experiment, and choose. There are many browsers to choose from, but start small and take a look at five of the major options:

  • Apple Safari
  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Opera
